India Positioned to Become Global Trusted Electronics and AI Supply Chain Partner: Vaishnaw at Google Cloud AI Hub Groundbreaking in Visakhapatnam
India is advancing as a global hub in electronics manufacturing and artificial intelligence with the launch of a USD 15 billion Google Cloud AI Hub in Visakhapatnam. The 1 GW hyperscale data centre, backed by major industry partners, is set to transform digital infrastructure, strengthen supply chains, and boost innovation across key sectors.
The project, being developed in collaboration with Google Cloud, Adani ConneX, and Airtel Nxtra, will feature a 1 gigawatt hyperscale artificial intelligence data centre. The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated approximately 600 acres of land across Turluvada, Rambilli, and Adavivaram for the initiative. The ceremony was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu along with senior industry leaders.
Vaishnaw stated that India’s rapid rise in electronics manufacturing is being driven by strong policy support and a national push towards self-reliance in critical technologies. He emphasized that India has already established itself as a global leader in information technology services and is now accelerating its growth in electronics manufacturing.
He further added that India is on track to become a global hub in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and space technologies. Highlighting progress under the government’s semiconductor mission, he noted that commercial production has already begun, marking a significant shift towards deeper manufacturing capabilities within the country.
Calling upon global technology companies to expand their manufacturing footprint in India, Vaishnaw urged firms, including Google, to produce servers, graphics processing units, and semiconductor components domestically, strengthening India’s position in global supply chains.
On the Visakhapatnam project, the minister said the city is poised to transform into “AI Patnam,” emerging as a major hub in India’s artificial intelligence and data ecosystem. He said the hyperscale data centre will drive innovation across sectors including education, healthcare, logistics, aerospace, and agriculture.
He also highlighted Google’s subsea cable investments originating from Visakhapatnam, which will connect India to global digital routes across Australia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the United States, thereby reinforcing the country’s digital connectivity backbone.
Google Cloud Global Infrastructure Vice President Bikash Koley stated that the AI Hub will serve as a foundational pillar for India’s digital transformation and its ambition of becoming a developed economy by 2047.
Adani Group Chairman Jeet Adani said the 1 gigawatt hyperscale facility represents a major milestone in India’s artificial intelligence journey and will establish Visakhapatnam as a new digital gateway for the nation.
The project is expected to significantly strengthen India’s technological infrastructure, enhance global competitiveness, and accelerate the country’s emergence as a key player in next-generation digital and manufacturing ecosystems.
